Amy Consovoy, LPC, LCADC

Welcome!

My name is Amy Consovoy. I am a licensed psychotherapist based in Bergen County New Jersey. As a dually licensed therapist, I am both a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC). In my time as a therapist, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings and have treated a range of presenting concerns.

Why I became a therapist:

I came into practicing therapy quite by accident. Drawn to the study of what makes people tick led me to pursue psychology and behavioral research. However, I quickly came to learn that working in a lab just isn’t for me. To expand my horizons I attended a graduate program in counseling, and I found that helping people to grow and change is my true passion.

Some of the concerns that bring my clients in for therapy are no stranger to me. My own struggles with anxiety, body image, and disordered eating all helped to shape me into the person and therapist that I am today. Learning to have compassion for the body you have, and telling that nasty internal critic to take a hike is no easy feat! I’m not here to compare my journey to yours, but I can tell you that you have what it takes to overcome the hard stuff too. I want to walk this road with you.

My approach to therapy:

I am a really good listener, but I am also really good at gently challenging my clients. With that said, I strive to strike a healthy balance between compassion and tough love. We can figure out together how much or how little of either approach works for you! While the work we do in session won’t be easy at times, I can promise you that we will talk, cry, and laugh it out together!
